Bill Aims to Improve Indoor Air Quality

from "Public Policy Update", Breathe Easy news magazine, Fall 2002/Winter 2003

The American Lung Association of California sponsored a bill (Assembly Bill 1173, Keely, D- Boulder Creek) that would be an important first step in assessing the indoor air quality problem. Indoor air pollution contributes to asthma and other lung diseases.

If signed by the Governor, AB 1173 would require the California Air Resources Board to provide an analysis of the most important sources of air pollution in schools, workplaces, homes and other locations and recommend measures for reducing public exposures and negative health impacts.

Indoor air pollution sources can include particle board, plywood, carpets, furnishings and other materials used in new construction, as well as stoves, ovens and consumer products such as household cleaning agents.
