California Expands Renewable Energy

from "Public Policy Update", Breathe Easy news magazine, Fall 2002/Winter 2003

California needs to reduce its reliance on power plants by increasing its renewable energy sources. The American Lung Association of California supported Senate Bill 1078 (Sher, D-Stanford), which will require 20 percent of California’s electricity needs to be met through zero-pollution renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and geothermal, by 2017.

Increasing renewable resources will protect public health by reducing dependence on conventional power plants, which pollute the air, and the need for diesel-power back up generators, which lack pollution controls and are a serious threat to public health, according to a new report issued by Environmental Defense.
