Greenhouse Gas Limits Needed

from "Public Policy Update", Breathe Easy news magazine, Fall 2006/Winter 2007 )

Global warming poses a major threat to our health, quality of life, economy and environment. The American Lung Association of California is supporting a landmark bill (AB 32, Pavley/Nunez) that would set a mandatory cap on greenhouse gas pollution, reducing emissions in California to 1990 levels by the year 2020, which is 25 percent below forecasted levels.

The bill also requires the California Air Resources Board to establish a reporting system to track and monitor emission levels and develop enforcement mechanisms. California is the sixth largest economy in the world and the twelfth largest emitter, which means the state’s leadership on global warming could have a significant impact on policies set by other states and countries.
