(July 6, 2009 - OAKLAND, CA) Jane Warner has been selected as the American Lung Association in California's president and CEO, effective today.

"Jane is the statewide leader we need to help every Californian breathe easier," said Trisha Murakawa, volunteer board chair of the American Lung Association in California. "She brings 30 years of successful experience in nonprofit management, fundraising and consulting; strengths that will help the organization with its aggressive focus on lung disease cures, air quality, lung cancer, asthma and tobacco control strategies."

"If there's anything that everyone has in common, it's the quality of the air that we breathe," said Warner. "We all need to breathe clean, healthy air and I am proud to be part of the leading organization that brings people together to create air quality solutions. When I was a child, I used to flush my parents' cigarettes down the toilet. Lucky for me, they stopped smoking and they are both still alive for us to enjoy life together."

Most recently, Warner served as the Executive Director for the American Diabetes Association of Southern California. Prior to that position, she served as the executive director for Family Service of Long Beach and held national and local positions with the Arthritis Foundation; directed the annual fund for the University of California, Los Angeles; served as the senior executive director with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and held positions with the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Florida and Los Angeles.

She also had a successful nonprofit consulting practice with a variety of clients including the National Kidney Foundation, the Partnership for a Drug Free America, the Spondylitis Association of America, the Thalians at Cedars Sinai Hospital, the California Urban Forest Council, and the Epilepsy Foundation.

Warner was born in Bristol, Tennessee and earned her bachelor's degree at Radford University in Virginia and master's degree at Florida State University. She is an avid golfer and enjoys long distance cycling and sailing.

The American Lung Association in California retained Los Angeles-based executive search firm Berkhemer Clayton for this position.
