Scholarship in Advanced Practice Nursing with a Focus in Pulmonary Care
RECOMMENDED CURRICULAR COMPONENTS FOR STUDENTS PURSUING PULMONARY NURSE EDUCATION IN GRADUATE PROGRAMS
The following topic areas should be included in the course of study in the Master's program in the university where the student is accepted. Students selected to receive the ALAC-RP Scholarship in Advanced Practice Nursing with a Focus in Pulmonary Care should confer with their assigned faculty advisor to assure compliance with these guidelines. Course titles will vary among institutions and content may be integrated in several courses. Students must also meet institutional requirements for the award of the master's degree.
- Research methods
- Research critique
- Pulmonary physiology and pathophysiology
- Clinical Management of Acute and Chronic Pulmonary Disease
- Cardiopulmonary Pharmacology
- Ethical Issues in Nursing Practice
- Selected Clinical Practicums, for example:
- chest x-ray interpretation
- physical assessment
- pulmonary function testing
- pulmonary rehabilitation programs
- ventilator and airway management modalities
- Clinical Residency
